Summary The Superintendent of Maintenance and Engineering primary responsibilities are to oversee and direct a staff of Maintenance Engineers, Supervisors, and contractors involved with the installation, maintenance and repair of the plant equipment and facilities. The incumbent is also responsible for all Environmental reporting for the facility and assisting with managing maintenance costs. Education, Licensure and Experience Bachelors degree in engineering or technical functions is highly preferred 10+ years of a combination of maintenance leadership and engineering experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be a minimum of 18 years of age and must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate.): The Superintendent of Maintenance and Engineering at the WholeStone Farms Fremont facility assists with the Management of a 700,000 square foot food processing facility. The Facility operates on a 24/7 schedule between all operations. There are thousands of complex machines and automated systems to oversee and maintain. Ensures State and Federal regulatory compliance in health & safety, environmental standards and plant equipment operations. Responsible for all Environmental reporting. The position assists in directing the electrical, mechanical and/or refrigeration maintenance functions for the plant. In collaboration with the Manager of Plant Engineering, works through Maintenance Supervisors and/or Maintenance Engineers to deliver an effective maintenance team for all operations, including, Processing, Fabrication, Further manufacturing, Packaging and all Mechanical, Refrigeration including PSM and RMP, Electrical and building maintenance functions. Establishes and sustains effective communications with all department managers in order to foster an environment where innovation and cooperation are used to solve problems. Works to improve the Reliability and Safety of production lines & ensure machinery down time is minimized. Works to optimize maintenance and operating efficiencies through minimizing operating costs and implementing key performance indicators and measurements. Works with Engineering firms, technical teams and contractors to ensure seamless introduction of capital projects and automation. Focuses on the development and training of the Maintenance and Engineering team. Helps manage the budget for maintenance and repairs as well as capital expense projects. Has knowledge of mechanical, electrical and refrigeration systems plant wide. Demonstrates and enforces safe working practices. Assists in the scheduling, planning and coordination of major equipment installations. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises employees within the plant to ensure quality maintenance and repair in accordance with the Personnel Manual and applicable laws. Employees supervised may include but are not limited to: Maintenance & Engineering Administrative Assistant Maintenance Engineering Technicians Maintenance Supervisors Maintenance Engineers Maintenance Planners Project Engineers Supervisory responsibilities include but are not limited to: Determining staffing requirements necessary to meet the department’s needs. Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees in performance of duties in compliance with all state and federal standards and laws as well as company requirements. Appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees including terminations. Planning and directing work schedules to assign and coordinate the work of office employees to promote efficiency of operations and in accordance with budgeted hours, ensuring that all duties are performed – work assignments to assist staff in completing and performing such tasks. Delegating administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to as deemed necessary. Monitoring turnover rates, employee surveys, and grievances to identify and address trends and/or critical indicators. Monitoring licensure of current staff to ensure they have a valid and current license as needed. Language Skills Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the language of the majority cultural group in order to communicate effectively. Must be able to hear enough to understand those individuals as well. Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend documents such as grafts/flow sheets, financials, general professional articles and publications, governmental regulations, safety rules, assignment sheets, and procedure manuals. Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, policies and procedures, and other administrative forms as outlined above. Must be able to effectively communicate in both individual and group settings. Must be able to present information and respond to questions from individuals and/or groups.
