A journeyman / apprentice is gaining experience in a trade under direct leadership training of a qualified experienced craftsman. Depending on the utilities, journeyman ships can last a half a year and up to 4 years. Many industries such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC has successful programs.
As of 2018, there is believed to be over 60,000 specialty jobs for ammonia operators, mechanics, and technicians, and electrician. Most all positions for journeymen do not require a degree, but may need industry experience and/or a specialty trade course.
