Job Description:

The Refrigeration/Ammonia Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, construction and modification of all refrigeration and heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment with special emphasis on ammonia refrigeration and compressors and boiler operations

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  1. Installs new equipment, repairs and modifies existing refrigeration/HVAC and boiler equipment.
  2. Performs necessary preventative maintenance on all equipment up to and including rebuilding compressors and boilers as needed and records necessary information.
  3. Trains other maintenance mechanics in ammonia refrigeration/HVAC/Boiler operations.
  4. Possess the ability and willingness to be state licensed, should this be mandated
  5. Assists other maintenance mechanics in their duties when time permits
  6. Ability to work with limited supervision and provides feedback to Supervisors on maintenance concerns
  7. Ability to switch from nights to days monthly.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • 1-2 years in commercial refrigeration environment/boiler operation and or accredited education preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic math skills including: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and percentage calculations
  • Ability to pass a Prove It test
  • Working knowledge of NH3 refrigeration principles and understanding of plant refrigeration systems, electric and mechanical procedures
  • Ability to read and understand schematics
  • Mechanical ability to analyze production machinery and their function and repair
  • Willing to work weekends and various shifts
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
