Job Description
Summary The Boiler & Refrigeration Operator is responsible to maintain, repair, rebuild and adjust plant refrigeration, boiler, water, and compressed air systems in areas of responsibility by analyzing, calibrating, replacing, repairing, or rebuilding all equipment and machinery within established guidelines. Employee will learn to use and operate industrial shop equipment and machinery. Education, Licensure and Experience: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and completion of a formal trades training program, or an equivalent number of years of education and maintenance experience. • GCAP Operator I or equivalent. • CARO Certification (Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator). • One year minimum mechanical experience. • One year minimum assistant operator experience. • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA Process Safety Management requirements. • Knowledge and ability to perform Lock Out Tag Out, Hot Work, and Confined Space procedures. Complete the following training within one year of job award: a. Initial Classroom Operator Training b. Initial On the Job Training c. Initial Maintenance Activities Training 2. Complete the following within four years of job award: a. Refrigeration Operator I Class or Equivalent b. Hazwoper Certification c. Boiler Operator I Class or Equivalent d. Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator 3. Start-up, shut down, adjust, repair plant refrigeration and boiler equipment to operate at established plant performance standards. 4. Read, interpret, understand manufacturers’ equipment manuals, equipment operating procedures. 5. Complete work orders and follow safety procedures 6. Maintain daily engine and boiler rooms log sheets. 7. Ability to wear company required Personal Protective Equipment, to include but not limited to hard hat, safety shoes, hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, air purifying respirator, self-contained breathing apparatus, and level A chemical suit as part of the Emergency Response Team. 8. Must be able to pass a lung function test to be certified to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus or gas mask, which requires no facial hair in areas where the face mask seals against the face. 9. Required to be clean shaven if trained in the use of and required to use a respirator. 10. Ability to be respiratory trained. 11. Ability to be HAZMAT trained and a member of the HAZMAT team. 12. Ability to be lockout/tagout, PIT and confined space certified. 13. Work as a team to plan and conduct equipment repairs. 14. Conduct routine audits and equipment inspections. 15. Demonstrate troubleshooting abilities. 16. Respond to unplanned/emergency work requests in a timely and effective manner. 17. Follow good manufacturing practices. 18. Other duties as assigned.
